Mary began her career as a full inclusion public-school teacher for sixteen years in New Haven, Connecticut prior to entering higher education. Her public-school teaching is featured in the documentary and book “Starting Small: Teaching Tolerance in the Early Years,” produced by Teaching Tolerance, a project of the Southern Poverty Law Center. She is the author of Racially Equitable Teaching published by Peter Lang. Her research and scholarship focus on critical whiteness studies, activist pedagogies, personalized inclusive educational pathways and problems of practice as a tool for educational transformation.
