Cluster Pedagogy and General Education
Participants will learn about cluster pedagogy and its relationship to our General Education program. Participants will also be asked to think about the ways in which they can implement cluster pedagogy in their own classes and to identify opportunities, obstacles, and the kind of support needed to move in this direction. Our work will be shared electronically so bringing a device to the session will be helpful. The session is designed primarily for faculty.

IRB Review and Cluster Pedagogical Techniques
Institutional review boards (IRBs) are facing large and small scope ethical challenges at Plymouth State University as we increasingly engage in Cluster Pedagogy.  This 45-minute session will review common ethical issues emerging in classroom-based projects, federal human subjects protections regulations (45 CFR 46), discuss issues related to active and passive parental informed consent in New Hampshire, maintenance of confidentiality in a digital age, and conflict of interest as it relates to a cluster-based learning environment.  In addition to the aforementioned important IRB issues, attendees will review several classroom activities that prepare students for future project-based learning endeavors, while not reaching the level of IRB review.

Creative Commons, OER & Cluster Pedagogy
We all appreciate that OER can save our students money, but what really defines an OER is what you’re allowed to do with it. Creative Commons licenses are widely used on OER to change the copyright status from “all rights reserved” to “some rights reserved.”  These legal tools facilitate the copying, sharing and remixing, (otherwise prohibited by copyright,) that can energize the classroom and help in-class work find a wider audience.  This session will review the CC backstory, describe the various CC licenses, and discuss how they can be used in Cluster Pedagogy.

Pressbooks: An Online Publishing Platform
Pressbooks is an online publishing platform that creates digital books, which are accessible through the web. Plymouth State University faculty and students have collaborated on several of these “pressbooks” to develop free and open content that is tailored to their course. You can use Pressbooks to publish textbooks, scholarly monographs, syllabi, fiction and non-fiction books, white papers, and more in multiple formats.
